The Jefferson County Ministerial Association (JCMA) held a special community worship service to commemorate National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 5. Presenters and participants gathered on the north side of the courthouse in downtown Monticello for the midday program.
“The National Day of Prayer belongs to all Americans,” said event organizer Ron Cichon to begin the program. “It is a day that transcends differences, bringing citizens together from all backgrounds. As we pray today, we are reminded that God moves in His world and in the lives of His people.”
After leading the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance, retired Pastor John Hicks offered a prayer for the nation. Next, a choral group and orchestra representing Jefferson County Homeschool Association presented the song “God Bless America.” Area pastors then offered specific prayers relating to life in the United States. The prayer for family was led by Rev. Jonathan Brewster, law enforcement by Rev. Sean Vickers, education by Pastor Eddie Yon, churches by Rev. Jered Day, local government by Father Steve Pessah, salvation by SL Wade, and military by Dr. Bob Kuschel.
Cities and counties all over the country held similar services to mark the National Day of Prayer.
