Former Commissioner Chris Tuten appeared recently before the Jefferson County Commission wearing a new hat as a representative of the soil and water conservation district, one of nearly 3,000 districts created by Congress across the country in the 1930s following the Dust Bowl disaster.
Florida’s 62 soil and water conservation districts work with other conservation agencies and their counties’ respective landowners to promote soil and water conservation practices in the interest of safeguarding the public good.
