A bill recently referred to the House’s State Affairs Committee seeks to eliminate property taxes in Florida, constituting a first in the nation if the measure were to be enacted.
House Bill 1371, entitled “An act relating to a property tax system study,” would require the Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability (OPPAGA) to conduct a study “on the potential impact of eliminating all property tax and replacing the lost revenue through the establishment of a consumption tax.”
The one-page bill requires the OPPAGA to submit the study’s findings to the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House by Feb. 1, 2025.
