Mrs. Quay McDaniel Sylvester, age 83, of Monticello, Fla., passed away on Aug. 16, 2021. Quay was born in Mount Vernon, Ga., to Hugh McDaniel and Lorna Selph, who along with her brothers, Cadle McDaniel and Joey Mayson, preceded her in death.
Quay shared a long and loving relationship with her husband, Bob Sylvester, who passed away in 2018. She is survived by her three children: Jennifer, Robert and Chuck; eight grandchildren: Christin, Jeb, Tiffanie, Courtney, Alyssa, Nicholas, Brooke and Owen; and three great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Caroline, and Rowan. She is also survived by her nephew, Jay; niece, Caroline, and many beloved relatives.
Quay attended David Lipscomb College where she completed a degree in nursing. She then served as an officer in the US Air Force, where she met her future husband, Bob. Upon discharge from military service in 1961, Quay and Bob moved to Bastrop, La., to begin their careers as a Registered Nurse and Veterinarian, respectively.
In 1970, they relocated their young family of five to Brooksville, Fla., where they continued their careers for 17 years. In 1986, Quay and Bob moved to Tallahassee, Fla., and later to Lloyd, Fla., where they enjoyed life on a farm together for over thirty years.
Quay had a love for gardening and spent much of her time caring for her beautiful property, which they named Willow Pond Farm. She also had a passion for service and volunteered for a number of years at the Jefferson County Library.
As an honorable veteran, Quay will be interred next to her husband, Bob, at Tallahassee National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jefferson County Library.
