The Monticello-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce will hold its first annual Cornhole Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2020. The event's purpose is to raise money for a new roof on the Chamber's 103 year old building. For those who don’t know the game, you might have played Cornhole and not known what it was called. Cornhole is a lawn game, in which players take turns throwing bags of corn kernels at a raised platform with a hole in the far end. Getting bag in the hole scores three points, while one on the board scores one point. Play continues until a team or player reaches or exceeds the score of 21 points.
The Cornhole Tournament will start at 5 p.m. on East Dogwood Street. The band Alley Cats, from Tallahassee, will perform beginning at 6 p.m. Come join the Chamber and your Monticello neighbors for an evening of social distanced fun; to-go food will be available from local restaurants! There are many team spots available, with a $40 registration fee per team. Capital City Bank and Capital City Home Loans are sponsoring the event. There are other sponsorship opportunities available in the form of board sponsorships for $250. A board sponsorship includes a team entry and advertising on promotion materials and the Chamber websites and the sponsor must provide the cornhole boards with their logo. In addition, there are table sponsorships available for $125, including a team entry into the tournament, advertising on promotional materials and “the Chamber website” and printed table sign on two tables.
The Chamber will also accept donations towards the cost of the new roof. For further information, call Katrina Richardson at the chamber office (850) 997-5552.
