Reams’ felony case set for retrial (state seeks to try Reams and McNeill together)

Following two days of the state presenting evidence and witnesses’ testimony to a six-member jury in the felony case of former Clerk of Court Kirk Reams – charged with grand theft and organized scheme to default – the proceedings ended abruptly on Wednesday afternoon, May 8, with the presiding judge declaring a mistrial.
Circuit Judge Stephen Everett based his decision on what he called a harmful and prejudicial error that had been compounded by repetition.
A visibly-disappointed State Attorney Jack Campbell conceded the prejudicial nature of errors committed by two of his witnesses, telling the judge that he in good conscience couldn’t oppose
