Reams sentenced to 18 months in prison

Kirk Reams, the former Jefferson County clerk of court convicted of grand theft by a jury in August, earlier this week was sentenced to 18 months in prison, to be followed by seven years of probation.
In sentencing Reams on Tuesday morning, Oct. 1, Judge Stephen Everett noted that given the nature of the public office that Reams had held, his violation of the public’s trust, and the misappropriation and misuse of public funds for personal use, the offense merited incarceration.
In his ruling, the judge allowed certain costs to be put on Reams, including the
$49,000 that the county expended for the forensic audit of the clerk’s office and the $14,
