Road signs to honor Haynes finally to go up

Motorists traveling on State Road 59 between U.S. 27 and U.S. 90, or coming off the interstate onto SR-59 and going either north or south, will soon know that they are on a portion of highway dedicated to the memory of Major John Leroy Haynes, a local resident and decorated war hero.
Sheriff Mac McNeill had one of the signs to be installed on SR-59 displayed at the Jefferson County Commission meeting on Thursday evening, Nov. 21.
“I'm honored to be here tonight for my friend, Major John L. Haynes, who passed away about a year ago,” McNeill said. “Thanks to this board doing a proclamation and sending it to the legislators, we got SR-59 from U.S 2
