Jefferson County Animal Control Officer Robbie Slack was a top-three finalist for Florida Animal Control Officer of the Year, a recognition he reports that he is very proud of.
This honor is open to any Florida Animal Control Association (FACA) Certified Animal Control Officer, and the competition is based on their employment with a current FACA Member Agency. The nominee must have been actively involved in the animal control/protection profession for at least one year prior to January 1 of this year and can be nominated for a single outstanding achievement in animal control and protection or exceptional performance in the year(s) prior to January 1.
Slack was given this award during the FACA 2020 Conference that was held on Feb. 21 – 23, at the Florida Hotel & Conference Center in Orlando. He attended with his wife, Rebekah.
Jefferson County Animal Control Director Beth Letchworth nominated Slack for this special award by submitting a narrative of Slack's accomplishments and work performance with the local animal control office.
According to Letchworth, she felt that Slack had demonstrated the worthiness of the nomination through his outstanding achievements and exceptional performance.
Several other Jefferson County influential individuals were involved with the nomination of Slack. They included Property Appraiser Angela Gray, Sheriff Mac McNeill, Fire Chief Derrick Burrus, Clerk of Court Kirk Reams, Tyler McNeill and a few others.
The FACA was originally organized in 1961 as the Florida State Animal Control Officers Association. In 1984 the Association was reorganized and chartered as the Florida Animal Control Association. In 1994 the purpose statement was changed to include “protection” as well as “control”.
Its mission is to cooperate with public agencies dealing in animal control and protection; assist local animal organizations through supporting disaster planning and post-disaster operations, and to promote justice and equity in enforcement of local and state laws and regulations.
Through this mission, the FACA hopes to improve the methods and standards of the animal control and protection profession while informing the public of the importance of work performed by these professionals.
As a non-profit organization, FACA is composed of individual, organizational, related associate and corporate members.
