On Saturday, Jan. 15, the Monticello Police Department (MPD) was dispatched in the later part of the evening to Robinson Gunworks, located at 705 S. Water St., where the burglary of several weapons was reported, according to a MPD press release.
MPD responded and, according to the press release, requested assistance from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO); the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives; the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Jefferson Correctional Institution K-9 unit.
On Sunday, Jan. 16, a second burglary was attempted at the same location. MPD reports that investigators developed leads with the case, which have been vital in recovering most of the stolen weapons.
Chief Fred Mosley said, “Monticello Police Department would like to give thanks to the above-mentioned agencies in their diligent assistance with this case.”
Anyone who has information that could further assist with this case can contact the MPD at (850) 342-0150 or Big Bend Crime Stoppers at (850) 574-TIPS (8477).
