Jefferson County is home to an incredible amount of animals, and a great number of them have amazing owners that care for them with dignity, care and no short amount of love. But every so often, an animal may find itself in a difficult situation, without the care of a loving home. Lost, abandoned or abused animals often find their way into the local animal welfare system, which is comprised of the cooperation of residents, private businesses and governmental facilities. This network of dedicated people provide homeless animals with a second chance to find their very own forever home. One of such animals is Rodney.
Rodney is still very much a puppy, at just under two years old. He is a current resident at the local Animal Control facility, and has been there since May of 2024. He was discovered as a starving stray that was traveling with another dog, who has since been adopted. He has periodically been able to spend time in different foster homes during hurricanes, and his fosters have described him as very friendly, good with other dogs, cats, chickens and children. He has been neutered and is up to date on all of his vaccines. He is also heart worm negative. Earlier last year, he did have someone adopt him, but was later picked up by Animal Control while wandering the streets, and his new owner reportedly stated she did not want him anymore when officials contacted her to come get him.
Rodney is a sweet boy, and loves to be around people. He is a big cuddle bug, and loves to snuggle, get pets and generally be showered with affection. As he has been at Animal Control for most of his life, he was previously not potty trained, but his most recent foster says he is an eager learner and is picking it up quickly. He enjoys playing, and is enthusiastic about toys. He requires a fenced in yard to prevent him from ending up on the streets again.
Life may have started out extremely rough for little Rodney, but at such a young age, he has a lifetime of love available for a new family to help make up for it. For those interested in meeting or adopting Rodney, contact Animal Control at (850) 342-0184. With patience, love and a ton of cuddles to share, Rodney awaits his happily ever after.
