Local students perform for area veterans
in annual program and luncheon

Jefferson Somerset students and facility held its annual Salute to the Armed Forces program and Veterans Appreciation Luncheon for area veterans on Friday, Nov. 8.
Allen Washington began the program with a welcome to all the veterans. Anthony Seaton followed with a speech called “What is Veterans Day?”
Posting of the Colors and the Pledge of Allegiance were led by Matthew Steen. The Tiger Band performed the National Anthem.
Jamichael Steen offered the invocation, and Jamielyn Giles spoke about why America is a great country.
Vice Principal Andre Gainey presented the VFW Essay Awards.
The first and second grade students performed “We Love Our Veterans.”
Jeff Whitty offered the Salute to the Armed Forces to music representing the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Navy. Veterans in the audience stood when their branch of the service was recognized.
Anthony Seaton offered closing remarks before the veterans were invited to stay for lunch, prepared and served by the Jefferson Somerset Culinary Department class.
