Suwannee County Fire Rescue (SCFR) announces that its Special Operations Team has officially been designated within the State of Florida Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) System as a Type 1 Technical Rescue Team, receiving the official designation TRT-201.
This designation represents a significant milestone for SCFR and recognizes the extensive training, preparation, equipment and operational capabilities developed by members of the department’s Special Operations Team.
With this designation, Team 201 becomes the only State Technical Rescue Team located within Florida’s Region 2, positioning SCFR to provide specialized technical rescue capabilities not only to the citizens of Suwannee County, but also in support of communities throughout the region when requested.
Florida’s Region 2 encompasses 13 counties: Gadsden, Liberty, Franklin, Wakulla, Leon, Jefferson, Madison, Taylor, Dixie, Lafayette, Suwannee, Hamilton and Columbia counties.
Members of the SCFR Special Operations Team have dedicated approximately two years to intensive training, preparation and development in pursuit of this milestone. The process has required substantial commitment from team members and the department to develop the personnel, equipment, training and operational readiness necessary to meet the requirements associated with the state designation.
Technical rescue teams are trained to respond to complex emergencies that can require specialized personnel, equipment and techniques beyond those typically utilized during routine emergency response operations. These capabilities are especially important during major disasters and other complex incidents where specialized rescue resources may be needed to support local and regional response efforts.
The TRT-201 designation also strengthens Suwannee County’s role in Florida’s coordinated emergency response system. When major incidents exceed the capabilities of an individual jurisdiction, specialized teams and resources can be deployed to assist affected communities through mutual aid and the statewide response system.
“This designation is the result of a tremendous amount of work and dedication by the members of our Special Operations Team,” said a SRFR spokesperson. “For the past two years, these men and women have committed themselves to the training and preparation necessary to reach this level. Becoming the only State Technical Rescue Team in Region 2 is something our department and our community can be extremely proud of. More importantly, it means that when our citizens or our neighbors across North Florida need specialized rescue capabilities, Team 201 will be trained, prepared, and ready to respond.”
SCFR extends its appreciation to the firefighters, instructors, partner agencies, county leadership and others who have supported the development of the Special Operations Team and helped make this achievement possible.
The designation of TRT-201 represents more than the completion of a goal. It reflects SCFR’s continuing commitment to advancing its emergency response capabilities, investing in specialized training, and ensuring its personnel are prepared to meet the challenges of complex emergencies throughout Suwannee County and the State of Florida.
