School Board approves final budget of $21.8M

Laura Young ECB Publishing, Inc. The Jefferson County School Board held its Final Budget Hearing on Monday, Sept. 11. First the board unanimously approved the millage rate for levying taxes. They set the Required Local Effort at 3.131 mils, which would raise an estimated $3,542,997. The Capital Outlay levy was set at 1.500 mils, which would raise approximately $1,697,380. The final millage levy for Discretionary Operating funds was set at 0.748 mils, which would raise approximately $846,427. Total millage, then, would be 5.379, to raise $6,086,804. The total millage rate to be levied is greater than the roll-back rate by 10.83 percent. It is noted that changes in millage and property v
