Scott Sullivan Thigpen, 51, passed away on Sept. 19, 2021, in Tallahassee, Fla. He was born May 28, 1970, in Thomasville, Ga., the son of William T. and Geraldine (Sullivan) Thigpen and was the youngest of a “yours, mine, and ours” family of seven.
Scott graduated from Godby High School and attended TCC and Valdosta State University. He was an avid reader, enjoyed kayaking, camping, hiking, and adventure trips. His favorite trip was to Nome, Alaska, where he stayed for six months. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his kids, and he loved football. The Miami Dolphins and Florida State Seminoles were his favorite teams. He was a big sci-fi fan too and enjoyed playing Dungeons & Dragons and loved all things Star Wars.
Scott was preceded in death by his father, William Thigpen; brother, Jeff McDonald; grandparents: Willie and Gertrude Thigpen and Joe and Minnie Sullivan.
Scott is survived by his son, Ryan Thigpen; daughter, Soren/Marley Thigpen; his soulmate and fiancé, Jamey Carroll Maine; her sons: Hayden, Mason, and Lucas, all of Tallahassee; and his mother, Geraldine Thigpen, of Lamont, Fla. Scott had one sister, Barbara Thigpen, of Havana; four brothers: Jody McDonald (Tammy), of Monticello; Bill Thigpen (Brandi), of Monticello; Bobby Thigpen (Keri), of St. Petersburg; and Leonard Thigpen (Dawn), of Woodstock, Ga.; the mother of his children: Jennifer Thigpen, of Tallahassee; and step-daughter, Shelby Harris (Hunter), of Atlanta, Ga.
Due to circumstances, it was necessary for Scott to have a flexible schedule. He drove statewide for Uber and Lyft for two and a half years. After COVID struck, he went back to school, earned his real estate license, and recently returned to Keller Williams, where he had worked years before.
Scott grew up in Ebenezer Baptist Church, but after his marriage and the birth of his son, he and his son were christened at Betton Hills Episcopal Church in Tallahassee.
Scott was an organ donor and felt strongly about helping others with a journey to a better life. He was born with a birth defect, and he himself benefited from a selfless donor.
A graveside service is at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, 2021, at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery in Lamont, Fla.
