Taylor County residents Walt McGuire and his son, Shawn, harvested an 829-pound, 13-foot 10-inch alligator on Tuesday, Oct. 26, in the Taylor County area. The alligator was harvested with state-drawn tags and processed by L & W Venison in Madison.
The state record for an alligator harvested is 14-foot 3.5-inches long and weighing 1,034 pounds. Walt and Shawn’s alligator was just shy of the state record by five inches.
The hide and head will be kept, as most hunters do when they harvest large game, and the meat will be processed.
