If you’re interested in learning about the foundations of American democracy, the Monticello Opera House is offering a series of videos on the U.S. Constitution that is going on at present.
Titled “Constitution Alive! A Citizens Guide to the Constitution,” the series is free and runs 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. every Tuesday through July 20.
Bill Snyder has recently been making the rounds, promoting the series. Snyder appeared before the Monticello City Council on Tuesday, May 4, and before the Jefferson County Commission on Thursday, May 6.
The series consists of 12 lessons, each videoed at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, the birthplace of the U.S. Constitution.
“Everybody’s invited to attend,” Snyder said.
He said individuals were encouraged to register ahead of time, but no one would be turned away if they showed up at the Opera House on a Tuesday morning.
He said the purpose of the series was twofold: to educate the citizenry on the U.S. Constitution, and to raise $1,200 for the Opera House.
As of the latest update, the goal had been exceeded by $100, to $1,300.
Recognized for their contributions were: Property Appraiser Angela Gray, the Avera-Clarke House Bed & Breakfast, Allen Adams, Gary Wright, Kenny Knox Golf, Monte and Bev Krier, Gretchen and Larry Wallace, plus several anonymous donors.
