Throughout the year, the Monticello Woman's Club supports the Jefferson County community as its members donate and raise funds for local non-profits. Their efforts support organizations that give-back to local citizens, promote youth literacy and fund special projects for the benefit of the community.
While all these projects help the Jefferson County community be a wonderful place to live, work and play, it means that the club operates with a slim financial budget.
In recent years, the Woman's clubhouse, a historical structure that is used for the club's monthly meetings and various social functions, has been in need of repairs. The clubhouse is used by the Woman's Club, but is also a community gathering place for family reunions, weddings, parties, meetings and other events.
In order to facilitate these repairs, the Woman's Club held a Country Dinner fundraiser, on Thursday, March 19, where club members sold plates of delicious country BBQ meals for their cause.
The plates, which were sold for $8 (adults) or $5 (children) included a meal of shredded BBQ pork on a bun, potato or corn chips, baked beans, coleslaw and homemade brownies for dessert.
This fundraiser was the perfect chance for locals to give back in support to a local group that has done much to support Jefferson County as a whole, while also preserving one of Monticello's historic structures.
Assisting in the funding for the Woman's Clubhouse repairs means that the clubhouse will continue to be a place where the community could gather for memory-making, personal functions and family gatherings.
“Thanks for helping us with upcoming repairs to continue preserving our historic building so that we may continue to support many charities in our community,” writes Woman's Club Vice President Jennifer King.
Operating the fundraiser were club members Janegale Boyd, Pam Kelly and Jennifer King, as well as club-member husband, Lee King (married to Jennifer).
