
Sharing memories of Suwannee River Junior College

Before there was the North Florida College (NFC) we know today, it split in two pieces. Madison was home to both North Florida Junior College (NFJC) and Suwannee River Junior College (SRJC), one for white students and one for Black students, until they merged under one name in 1966. Even though Suwannee River Junior College was open for just seven years before the merge, its legacy has still not been forgotten in North Florida. Jimmie Demps, an alumnus who now lives in Monticello, shares fond memories of his time at SRJC.
