Sheryl Cone McKenna, lovingly called Doodle, 75, slipped silently and peacefully asleep into the arms of her Jesus on April 5, 2021, after suffering from a brief illness. She was born May 24, 1945, in Monticello, to Sumpter Laurie and Inez Cone.
For many years, Sheryl worked and retired at South Georgia Medical Center processing medical claims and brightening the days of her coworkers, friends and patients alike. She loved to go camping and fishing and was a long-time member of Abundant Life Church of God in Lowndes County.
Sheryl is survived by her brother, Benny Cone (Jettie); her sister, Diane Knecht; two daughters, Lynn Reith (Mike), Rhonda Lucas (Steven); her son, Keith Scott (Karen); six grandchildren, Wade McGuffee, Jordan McGuffee, Jacob McGuffee, Katie Reith, Anna Reith and Jonathan Lucas; one great-grandchild, Elaine (Ellie) McGuffee, and numerous nephews. Sheryl loved all of her family and always tried to stay connected to everyone.
We will miss Sheryl’s joy, strength and humor and we shall cling to the scripture, Psalm 116:15 “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.”
Sheryl has fought the good fight and her passing reminds us of how much she loved the Lord and her family.
“Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.” -2 Corinthians 5:8
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021, at 12 p.m. at Beggs Funeral Home, 485 E. Dogwood St. Monticello, Fla. Her family and friends are invited to celebrate Sheryl’s life at a Graveside Service at Roseland Cemetery in Monticello, being held at 1 p.m.
