Shirley Henderson, 80, of Monticello, Fla., passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021. She was born August 22, 1941, in Colquitt, Ga., the daughter of Idus and Shady Glass.
The family will be accepting visitors at Beggs Funeral Home (www. beggsfuneralhomes.net), 485 E. Dogwood St., Monticello, Fla., on Friday, Jan. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 8, at 1 p.m., at Springfield Cemetery, 1206 Springfield Rd., Monticello, Fla.
Shirley was the youngest of four children of Idus and Shady Glass. She was born in Colquitt, Ga., and grew up in South Georgia and North Florida. She met her husband, Horace, in Chattahoochee, Fla., and was married to the love of her life for 63 years.
Shirley worked for, and retired from, Florida Forest Service in Havana. She loved music, singing and dancing; she and Horace spent many Friday and Saturday nights at the American Legion doing just that. She also enjoyed fishing at their property on Lake Talquin as well as going to games to cheer on her beloved Florida State University baseball team. Shirley loved her hobbies, but, most of all, she loved sharing them with her favorite people – her children, grandchildren and large, extended family. Being a loving wife, mom and "Nana" was her greatest joy.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Idus and Shady Glass; sister, Audrey Finuff; and brother, Maron Glass.
She is survived by husband, Horace E. Henderson; sister, Alice Flick; son, Danny E. Henderson (Virginia); son, Jonathan William Henderson (Victoria); grandchildren, MaryBeth (Michael), Arielle, Victoria (Dameon) and Logan (Dylan); and great-grandchildren, Makayla, Ayden, Mya, Faylynn, Izabella, Colton and Beau.
