A shooting near South Waukeenah Street on Tuesday, June 30, required the combined investigative and response efforts of the Monticello Police Department (MPD), Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) and the Jefferson County Fire Rescue (JCFR).
According to a press release issued by the MPD, local law enforcement agencies received a 911 call shortly after 10 a.m. The call informed police officers and deputies that a person had recently been shot near the Jefferson Place Apartment complex and the victim was currently lying in the roadway of South Waukeenah Street.
Police officers from MPD responded to the scene, with deputies from JCSO arriving to provide assistance. Once at the scene, law enforcement officers found a man on South Waukeenah Street; the man had an injury to his back that was tended to on-scene by JCFR paramedics. The man was eventually transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
MPD officers and JCSO deputies conducted a neighborhood check in the area in order to reach out to any potential witnesses and gather any information regarding the reported shooting. Additionally, evidence from the scene was collected.
Later that day, the victim was released from the care of the hospital due to having only sustained a minor injury.
