The Aucilla Christian Academy (ACA) Warrior Tennis Teams ended their season involuntarily in early-March due to the threat of COVID-19 spread.
Despite the shortened season, the stats from the teams shows that – overall – the tennis-playing Warriors had a successful, albeit brief, athletic year.
According to Head Coach Katrina Walton, the Warrior Girls' Team won all eight of the tennis matches they played in, with Olivia Walton keeping a 7-1 personal record, Riley Hamrick holding a 3-4, Jenna Lindsey 8-0, Anna Lee Trest 8-0 and Marley Restrepo 5-1.
The Warrior Boys' Team, Coach Walton says, won four and lost four of their matches.
Dawson Bishop finished out the brief athletic season with a 0-4, Brewster Bass with a 4-4, Matthew Arceneaux with a 5-2, Joey Davis with a 5-3 and Will Sullivan with a 6-2.
The last ACA Warrior tennis game for the 2019-2020 season (before COVID-19 canceled the rest of the games) was held on Friday, March 13 and was against the Eagles of Wakulla High School.
According to Coach Walton, her team missed out on playing several additional games against Lincoln, Taylor County High School, Community Christian School, Florida High, St. John Paul II and Union County High School.
The district tournaments were projected to be held on Tuesday, April 14 and Wednesday, April 15 – but those were also canceled.
“We missed half our season and all [the] championships that we stood a good chance in placing,” said Coach Walton.
For many of the students on the team, this will be their final year playing sports as an ACA Warrior, as they will be graduating from high school in the upcoming days.
In addition to Coach Katrina Walton, the ACA Tennis teams are led by Coach Nate Cruce, Rob Beshears, Starbuck Rissman and Richard McKee.
