The end of April brings much anticipation. For some, it is the promise of warm weather and long, summer days. For others, it symbolizes the perfect time for community-driven events such as yard sales, festivals and car shows. Each year, the Jefferson County Lions Club hosts an Annual Car Show in October, but this year marks their first springtime show, Show and Shine, which was held on Saturday, April 30 in Monticello, and lasted from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The April Show and Shine car show differed slightly from the Lions Club's regular car show, as it did not require a registration fee, and did not include a judgement of the vehicles. At the annual car show, the registration of a vehicle costs $15 and everyone who attends is encouraged to vote on the top three cars. Whoever earns the most votes wins a trophy.
Cars at the Show and Shine event came from all across Florida, and any type of vehicle was welcome to be shown during the show. Anyone was welcome to come and show off their cars and participate in the festivities, and this year's spring show saw a great turn out!
“We really appreciate everyone coming out to support the Jefferson County Lions Club,” said Lions Club President Shanna Boutwell, “[for] all the cars trucks and donations. A big thank you to Monty with Car Quest, for allowing us to have the car show in the parking lot and for all of your support for the Lions Club! Also, I would like to thank Monticello Historic Main Street, for volunteering to help us out!” She finished with additional thanks to Marvin Edwards for providing and cooking hot dogs and sausages during the event, and to Fred Rolland for donating coffee and donuts.
While attendees were admiring the many cars, they were encouraged to buy 50/50 raffle tickets. At the end of the show, the winner of the raffle received half of the pot. All money raised by the Lions Club during this event will be used to assist people in need of eyeglasses and hearing aids. For those who missed the car show, who wish to donate to the Lions Club contact the club president, Shanna Boutwell at (850) 694-3509 or via email at sboutwell68@yahoo.com. Donations can also be mailed to P.O. Box 1327, Monticello Fl, 32345. Please make all checks payable to Jefferson County Lions Club.
