Several local services, clubs, groups and meetings have been closed, postponed or canceled in response to the public health concerns posed by the coronavirus (COVID-19).
WHAT'S CLOSED?
The Jefferson County Courthouse will be closed to the public until further notice. The general public can still contact the Clerk of Court and his staff at (850) 342-0218.
Jefferson County Property Appraiser will be closing the lobby to its office on Thursday, March 19. Property Appraiser Angela Gray says that county residents will still be able to contact the office through their website, phone number and email addresses. Information may be faxed to the property appraiser's office. For more information, you can still call the office at (850) 997-3356.
Jefferson Somerset campus will remain closed until Wednesday, April 15. Jefferson County students will begin online education after returning from Spring Break.
The 2nd Judicial Circuit Court in Jefferson County has postponed all hearings and legal proceedings until April, with the issue to be revisited then to determine whether the postponement will be prolonged.
Jefferson County R.J. Bailar Public library will be closed to the public for the foreseeable future. The idea now is to close it to the public until mid April, with the possibility that the time may later be extended, depending on what develops in the interim.
Jefferson County Historical Association has canceled all meetings until further notice.
Monticello-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce April member luncheon has been canceled. The chamber will decide at a later date on whether to hold or cancel the May luncheon.
Jefferson County Recreational Park will be closed to the public for the time being. The idea now is to keep it closed for two to four weeks to prevent youth from congregating at the park. The park plans to reopen after two to four weeks, but there is the possibility that the time may be extended in the future.
Jefferson County Commission meetings will be held in an isolated room and broadcasted to the public via video streaming. The public would then be able to comment and ask questions electronically. At least this is the idea being explored at present.
Hiram Masonic Lodge No. 5 meetings and social functions have been canceled until May.
Jefferson County Lions Club has canceled meetings until further notice.
Monticello Jamboree Band has canceled the band's weekly Friday night dances until further notice.
Pillow Pals Sewing Group has canceled their regular meetings and gatherings until further notice.
Boys Scouts and Cub Scouts Troop 803 will be canceling all troop activities until Sunday, April 5. This includes the troop's Pinewood Derby, that would have been held on Saturday, March 21 in Thomasville, Ga.
Kate Dilworth Scott Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy has canceled all meetings and functions in April.
Monticello Altrusa Club will be canceling their meetings until further notice.
Chamber Bike Fest, hosted by the Monticello-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce and scheduled for Saturday, May 9, has been canceled.
Monticello Rotary Club has canceled all club functions and meetings until further notice.
Community Prayer Breakfast, scheduled for April 2, has been canceled.
Jefferson County 4-H will be canceling their annual Fashion Revue (scheduled for March 26), the 4-H County Events (scheduled for April 4) and the 4-H District Showcase (scheduled for April 25).
The 3rd Annual Sheriff David Hobbs Barrel Race, and its associated events has been postponed until further notice. No new dates for the fundraising event have been announced.
WHAT'S OPEN?
Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (as well as the dispatch lobby and Jefferson County Emergency Management) will remain open with its regular office hours. The JCSO is postponing any fingerprinting services until after the coronavirus threat has passed. Sheriff McNeill is asking anyone who is displaying coronavirus symptoms (such as a fever, sore throat, coughing, sneezing and a runny nose) to call, rather than visit. Monticello Police Department will remain open to the public with its regular office hours. However, Chief Mosley is asking anyone who is displaying coronavirus symptoms (such as a fever, sore throat, coughing, sneezing and a runny nose) to call, rather than visit. You can contact the MPD at (850) 342-0150.
Jefferson County Tax Collector's Office will remain open to the public, but the office will discontinue its driving test for new driver's licenses until the coronavirus threat has passed. For more information, you can call the office at (850) 342-0147.
Monticello City Hall still plans to remain open to the public. City Hall asks all city residents to call in with their complaints and inquiries, rather than visit the office, however. Payments can be placed online and over the phone and City Hall has a payment drop-box located near City Hall's back porch. Call City Hall at (850) 342-0153.
Jefferson County Fire Rescue's front office will remain open to the public.
Jefferson County's departments will remain open and operate as normal.
Monticello-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce will maintain its normal office hours.
Jefferson County Department of Health plans to maintain normal office hours.
The First Bank will remain open to the public with its regular office hours and services. Despite that, the banking staff asks its patrons to utilize online and mobile banking services as much as possible. The ATM will remain open 24/7, the mobile app will allow patrons to transfer funds, deposit checks, track transactions and account totals and more. If you need assistance with your balance information, you can call the 24-hour line at (866) 362-6477.
Capital City Bank will remain open to the public with its regular office hours and services. Despite that, the banking staff asks its patrons to utilize online and mobile banking services as much as possible. Monticello Garden Club is still planning to hold the club's Spring Conference on Thursday, March 26. At that time, the club will discuss how to proceed with future meetings.
Jefferson County Extension Office will continue to operate with normal business hours.
American Legion Post 49, Sons of American Legion and its Auxiliary Unit are still planning to meet on Tuesday, April 14.
Monticello Opera House will keep its box office and front office open for the foreseeable future. The opera house has canceled a few of its productions (Four Friends with the Write Stuff playwriting workshop, March 20-22 and the El Gato Sin Amigos children's show, March 28-29). Monticello Woman's Club will still meet on Tuesday, April 14.
Red Hat Scarlet O'Hatters will still meet on Saturday, April 11.
Keystone Federated Republican Women are still planning to meet on Monday, March 23.
Wolf Creek Pet Adoption Center plans to remain open to the public.

WHAT'S UNDECIDED?
The Watermelon Festival, hosted by the Monticello-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, is currently up-in-the-air. The festival's board is meeting next month to determine whether to cancel or continue with the festival.
The Jefferson County School District is closed during Spring Break, so ECB Publishing, Inc. was unable to inquire about whether the school board will hold or postpone their monthly April meeting on Monday, April 13.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 251 and its Auxiliary Unit will hold a conference call this week to determine whether to hold or postpone upcoming meetings on April 5 and the April 4 Awards Banquet.
Monticello City Council has a scheduled meeting on Tuesday, April 7. The council has not yet decided whether to postpone that meeting.
