A fundraising effort is underway for the spaying and neutering of several cats housed and cared for at SnappHappy Feral Cat Sanctuary. SnappHappy is a TNR (trap, neuter, release) establishment located in northeast Jefferson County for the many homeless cats found and trapped throughout the area. Many of the cats were picked up from area dumpsites or were taken to the local animal shelter, only to be turned away because of its limited space. It's through donations and fundraising efforts that the needs of these cats and kittens are met. Since its beginning, SnappHappy has taken in several hundred cats and kittens, not including kittens born after the arrival of too many pregnant cats. Many of the cats and kittens have found “fur-ever” homes through word-of-mouth and advertising in the local paper and on Facebook. Most of the cats are adoptable and make great house and barn cats. The fundraiser: For every $40 donation, donors will be given their choice of a six-pound cooked ham or Boston butt from Johnston's Meat Market, and a chance to win a homemade quillow (lap quilt). The fundraiser will be held through this week, for the meat orders, in order to be picked up for the Labor Day weekend; on Friday, Sept. 3 between 2 and 6 p.m., at Johnston's Meat Market, 1480 W. Washington St., Monticello. For more information, and to make a donation, call (850) 997-0901 of (850) 464-6257.
All funds will go directly for the feeding, doctoring and housing of the cats. Ten cats will be neutered or spayed this week, and another 10 next week. On average, three cats a week...all year... are spayed or neutered from SnappHappy Feral Cat Sanctuary. Please help by making a donation now, and by getting your cats spay and neutered. If you need a voucher to help with the cost, contact Jefferson County Animal Control or the Jefferson County Humane Society.
