Solar ordinance set for final two hearings (First one is Thursday, Oct. 5)

The Jefferson County Commission is scheduled to hold the first of two public hearings on the much-revised solar farm ordinance on Thursday evening, Oct. 5, in the courthouse annex.
The commission's hearing follows the Jefferson County Planning Commission’s Aug. 17 hearing, which resulted in a 4-3 decision to recommend denial of the measure.
The 4-3 split among the planners reflects their conflicting views on the proposed regulations, which some consider go too far and infringe on property rights, while others hold that the rules don’t go far enough to safeguard the county from the unintended adverse consequences of solar facilities.
