There's a lot to love about peanut butter.
Not only is it incredibly nutritious and nourishing, it is also friendly to tight-budget shoppers and stirs of warm childhood memories of PB&J sandwiches. It can be used as a snack, in sandwiches, while cooking or spread on pancakes and waffles.
Peanut butter is also the current mission of the Monticello-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce and its “Spread the Love” campaign.
During this month-long mission, the local chamber of commerce will be collecting jars of peanut butter in order to be given to the local food bank and Eagles' Wings Food Distribution. In turn, those simple jars of peanutty goodness will help feed families in Jefferson County.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, local food banks and distributions have felt the strain as more residents require meal assistance during these trying times.
As stated above, peanut butter is a healthy and nourishing option for families, especially as it is a popular, kid-friendly food.
Peanut butter lowers the risk of diabetes, assists in strong bone growth, is heart-healthy, aids in weight loss goals and can protect against neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's.
If you would like to participate in this special Spread The Love campaign, donations of peanut butter can be left at the chamber of commerce, located at 420 W. Washington St., just west of the Jefferson County Courthouse. Donations can include any brand and any type of peanut butter.
Financial donations for the purchase of peanut butter are also being accepted.
