St. Elmo Hotel’s winter tradition

One of the most well-known long lost historical buildings of Jefferson County is the St. Elmo Hotel. It was written about it before briefly in previous articles, as many feel it was a beautiful building that deserves to not be forgotten. However, something that has not been addressed nearly enough is the winter tradition of lavish parties at the St. Elmo Hotel and their significance; they certainly helped solidify the hotel, and therefore Monticello, as an important staple despite only existing for a few decades.
