St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church is excited to announce the launch of Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon as a ministry to help those who struggle with alcohol abuse. The first meeting will be held on Friday, Feb. 20, at 6 p.m., in the church’s fellowship hall, located at 5905 N.W. Lovett Rd., Greenville, Fla.

This ministry will be led by Mike McHargue, administrator and treasurer, with AA leader, Daniel Hunt. Both McHargue and Hunt have a heart to reach those who are struggling with alcohol addiction.
“Many individuals struggle with alcohol abuse and as a result experience great trials in their life at work and, most importantly, at home,” McHargue said. “We all know someone with these struggles. Our desire is to create a network of AA and Al-Anon on chapters at multiple locations to afford our citizens who desire to address alcoholism frequent opportunities to meet at convenient locations to address individual alcohol abuse and the impact of alcohol on families.”
As this endeavor grows, the desire is to host these meetings at various locations in Madison County.
“Meeting locations do not have to be at a church; however, we favor that,” McHargue said. “But we also see it important that our residents have a choice to attend where they are comfortable.”
He continued, “While deliberating establishing a chapter at our church on Lovett Road, we realized a single location will have minimal impact on the community, leading us to pursue establishing a network of chapters. We were also able to determine there are many new residents with AA experience who have expressed interest is supporting such an initiative.”
“If anyone is interested in supporting this effort by providing a meeting location or becoming a sponsor or volunteer, we would love to hear from you,” McHargue said.
