Popular streaming services have continued to increase prices and add advertisements, reverting back to aspects of cable that consumers tried to avoid by switching to streaming.
Streaming services like Netflix started appearing in the late 2000s and early 2010s and were a cheaper, ad-free alternative to watching television on cable. As streaming platforms grew in popularity and in number, demand for cable decreased and media companies including Disney, HBO, and NBC released their own platforms.
