A fire broke out at a residence around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18, off Lake Road in Monticello. Jefferson County Fire Rescue (JCFR) Tanker 1, Engine 1 and Rescue 3-6 responded to the structure fire along with Monticello and Lloyd Volunteer Fire Departments. The caller advised that there were flames, but all persons were out of the structure.
Captain Jared Parramore advised, once on the scene, that the structure was fully involved. JCFR deployed three hose lines to control the fire, so it didn’t spread to the nearby trees and brush. In the process of extinguishing the fire, the structure collapsed, resulting in a total loss. There were concerns from the neighbors about the large propane tank exploding from exposure to the flames under it; however, it thankfully didn’t explode.
Chief Derrick Burrus made contact with the owner and discovered that the
structure was, in fact, not a house but a workshop. The owner stated that the propane to the building had been disconnected, and though there was electricity in the workshop, there weren’t any lights or appliances. Due to the severe damage to the building, the cause of the fire is undetermined.
Jefferson County Fire Rescue, Monticello Volunteer Fire Department, Lloyd Volunteer Fire Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the scene.
