Lugging a hand truck loaded with five banana boxes fully loaded with canned goods and other non-perishables up a ramp is hot and sweaty work, but that’s what it’ll takes to Stuff the Truck at Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
Church members hope they and the community will donate enough food and personal hygiene items the weekend of July 24-26 to fill 350 banana boxes and pack a 16-foot U-Haul truck to help the Good News Outreach pantry get through the summer. The church, located at 4665 Thomasville Rd. in Tallahassee, will be open for donations Friday afternoon, Saturday morning and evening and Sunday morning and evening.
With inflation climbing toward 4%, escalating food prices and fears of AI job losses, it’s getting harder for low-income families to put food on the table, according to the parish’s Mercy & Justice Core Community (MJCC). The group seeks to help the very poor through acts of mercy and justice. This will be the 12th food drive for Good News Outreach conducted by MJCC.
The Good News Food Pantry is located at 606 W. 4th Ave. in Tallahassee. The hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays. The pantry accepts non-perishable food in non-breakable containers that are within their sell-by dates.
