The Jefferson County Homeschool Association (JCHAI) began a Summer Strings Experiment this June. This experiment is led by Kristine Joubert, who lived in Louisiana until December of 2020, when she moved to Monticello to be closer to family. Joubert has 40 years of experience teaching string instruments to children. She saw an article about the local homeschooling group in the paper and reached out to them to offer classes.
Each strings class is $20 per month, and there are three different classes available to choose from:
• Little Beginner Violin classes for ages four-seven years old.
• Beginner Violin and Viola for ages eight and up
• Beginner Cello and Bass for ages eight and up
Currently, there are only three spots still available in each class.
At the end of the summer, if the experiment is a success, the goal is to be able to have each different class perform a concert for their friends and family; That's where the experiment part comes in! The concert, if held, will take place at the end of August.
The Summer Strings Experiment is open to any member of the Homeschool Association, which is open to any homeschool family. For more information on how to join the JCHAI, contact Tammy Brookins at (850) 210-3653.
