County raises fire and
landfill special assessments

When property owners get their tax bills for the new fiscal year in early November, they will also be getting the applicable special assessments.
Here is what residents can expect in terms of the assessments, as approved by the Jefferson County Commission at a special public hearing on Thursday, Sept. 14.
The first special assessment approved was the one for fire protection services, which applies countywide. The new rates, as adopted by resolution, are $198 for residential properties, and four-cents-per-square-foot for nonresidential or commercial properties.
