Before David went to fight in Iraq, he worked with the same company for over 25 years. After 9/11, he joined the National Guard. David knew there was a risk of him being called to war if there was a need, but it seemed unlikely since few reserves had been called up for service since World War 2. That’s one of the reasons his family was surprised when David was called to Iraq for an 18 month tour of duty. David’s wife missed him terribly and struggled with only hearing bits and pieces of what David was experiencing and the possibility that he might never return. She busied herself with kids and grandkids and work and anything else that might help her take her mind off of things and help
