The Jefferson County Farm Bureau recently awarded area school students (in the first and fifth grade) with prizes and pizza parties for their participation in the annual Florida Farm Bureau Poster and Essay contests.
Each year the local Jefferson County Farm Bureau office presents local students with prizes for: First Grade Students - had to depict a farm on a poster board. They were encouraged to use their imagination and creativity. Each winner was presented as accordingly: 1st place - $20. 2nd place - $15. 3rd place - $10. Honorable Mention - $5 and pizza parties for the entire class to enjoy. In addition to the students’ awards, each winning class teacher was awarded $25 to use as they deemed appropriate.
The fifth graders were judged on an essay contest entitled, “Why is agriculture important to America?” Each student was allowed to do research outside of the school, however, the actual writing had to be done in class. The finished essay had to be in the students best handwriting, stay within the 100-word guidelines and the information had to be accurate and well written.
