The bound histories of North Florida and South Carolina

The history of any town is always tied to its people, and there are many common threads to be found among the people of North Florida towns.
One of those common threads is that many of the settlers from the territorial period and early statehood who lived in our North Florida towns—Monticello, Madison, Perry, Quincy, and many others—seem to have come from South Carolina, and more specifically, Charleston, S.C. This observation is well-recorded. Birth records indicate that, in 1850, 4,439 current residents of Florida had been born in South Carolina.
