The struggle of Floridians against nature is not a new one. According to NASA studies, climate change has made hurricanes more frequent and destructive in recent decades, but that does not mean that there was an absence of hurricanes in the days gone by. Florida has had a long history of being struck by hurricanes. The era of modern data storage regarding weather began in the 1880s, but hurricane records precede it by a few decades. Records such as correspondence, journals, newspapers and more tell the tale of weather events before then—including hurricanes.
