The Interesting Tales of Mr. Finlayson

Monday, Nov. 13 of 2023, the second story of the courthouse was alive. Many Monticello residents gathered in a big room, eager to hear a speaker talk about his family. The speaker, John Finlayson, is a Monticello resident and his family has been in Florida for centuries. While he talked, Mr. Finlayson shared so much history and stories of the old Monticello. One of my favorite stories he told was about one of his Great-Grandfathers, who was a surveyor, who named all of his daughters after cities and states. I also enjoyed the stories about Indians, slaves and the Civil War. After the talk was over, people came to a table with books on old Monticello history. I am very glad that I got to he
