Though Monticello is the only city in Jefferson County, there are several smaller communities the county is also home to. One of those communities is Lloyd, near the Leon County line, which is perhaps best-known for its historic train depot; the depot was originally built around 1858 and is possibly the oldest surviving station in the state. Though Lloyd is a small community, its history goes back to the beginning of the county itself.
