The Jefferson County Watermelon Pageant has been planned and the date set - - - SUNDAY, JUNE 7!
This year, the pageant committee announces some exciting new changes to the pageant process.
The Miss Watermelon Queen Pageant will be held, this year, at the Monticello Opera House.
Beginning at 2:00 p.m., spectators can enjoy watching the 2-12-year-olds take the stage to compete for their respective crowns: Tiny Miss & Mr. (2-4 year-olds); Little Miss & Mr. (5-7 year-olds); and Princess (8-12 year-olds).
Then, at 6 p.m., everyone is invited to watch as the Junior Miss and Queen contestants take to the stage to compete for their coveted titles. The Junior Miss contestants are for ages 13-15 years old and the Queen contestants must be between the ages of 16-24. Each contestant in these categories, will be judged in a private interview; a promotional video introducing themselves and promoting Jefferson County, Monticello or the Watermelon Festival; evening gown; impromptu question; and talent/personal showcase.
The 2020 Miss Watermelon Queen will be awarded a crown, sash, $2,000 scholarship to any college or higher education and a $500 gift package. The Miss Watermelon Queen first-runner-up will receive a $500 scholarship to North Florida College.
The 2020 Junior Miss Watermelon Queen will be awarded with a crown, sash and a $250 gift package.
The talent/personal showcase winner will receive a $100 gift package.
The Miss Congeniality will receive a $50 gift package.
Applications are ready for pick-up at either the Chamber of Commerce office, located at 420 W. Washington St. or at Oh Happy Day Gifts, located at 150 N. Jefferson St.
Applications will be available online beginning next Monday, on the Chamber’s website.
