This week marked the beginning of the Lyrid Meteor Shower, which starts around April 15, and will continue through the end of the month. While that may sound like you have plenty of time to go star-gazing, it is important to note that this weekend into the beginning of next week is peak time for catching sight of a shooting star.
This meteor shower is one of the oldest known meteor showers, and has been observed for nearly 3,000 years. It's vivid display is famous for being bright and swift, and although there are more vibrant showers that take place throughout the year, this one is well-favored for its potential for outbursts.
