The Jefferson-Somerset boys basketball team is off to a good start this season with two wins and one loss.
On Tuesday, Dec. 1, the Jefferson-Somerset Tigers took on the Dixie County Bears, beating them by a score of 57-46. The leading scorers for the Tigers were senior, Jaquan Coasey, with 28 points and junior, Hunter Watson, with 19 points. Watson shot a good long game for the Tigers, making five three-pointers in the game, while Coasey relied heavily on his two-pointers and free throws to help his team defeat the Bears.
Coming off of their strong start to the season, the Tigers faced the Lafayette Hornets on Friday, Dec. 4, and narrowly defeated them for their second win of the season. With only a one point win over Lafayette in the 54-53 win, every point mattered to both teams during this contest. Jaquan Coasey again led his team to victory with 23 points, with Hunter Watson contributing 11 points and freshman J. Hawkins scoring 8. Coasey also proved himself to be a rebound leader, with 10 rebounds against the Hornets, followed by Watson with five and RyQuez Williams with six.
On Tuesday, Dec. 8, the Tigers suffered their first loss of the season in their matchup against the Taylor County Bulldogs, by a score of 61-45. Despite the loss, Jaquan Coasey still contributed greatly to his team’s 45 points, scoring 21. He also had a team leading eight rebounds. Haven Francis also contributed to the team’s offense, scoring 13 points.
The Tigers will face the Hamilton County Trojans on Friday, Dec. 11, in Jasper at 7 p.m.
