The Jefferson County High School (JCHS) Tigers picked up their first win of the varsity football season on Monday, Oct. 3, when they defeated the Baby Rattlers from Florida A and M High School, 36-12. The game was originally scheduled to be played on Friday, Sept. 30, but was postponed due to concerns over Hurricane Ian.
The Tigers were able to put together a complete game on both sides of the ball, especially on offense as they took advantage of an impressive rushing performance by Travis Keaton, who rushed for 290 yards on 14 carries for the Tigers.
Keaton was named the Offensive Player of the Game for the Tigers. Jaylin Gilbert was named the Defensive Player of the Game for his five sacks, one of which resulted in a safety for the Tigers.
The Tigers will have an extended time to prepare for another challenging opponent, the Wildcats of Wildwood High School. The Wildcats have a record of 4-1 and are coming off a 78-0 shut-out of Akelynn's Angels Christian Academy, on Friday, Sept. 23. The Tigers will face the Wildcats on Friday, Oct. 14, at Tiger Stadium. The cat-fight gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
