Fall 24-points shy of winning the tournament

On Friday, Feb. 14, the Madison County High School (MCHS) Cowboys defeated the Jefferson Somerset Tigers, 66-42, to win their fourth consecutive district basketball championship. The host school for this year's district tournament was Lafayette High School, in Mayo. Fla.
The Tigers went out to an early 6-1 lead with a pair of three-point shots from beyond the arc. Then the Cowboys went on a 15-0 scoring run and ended the first quarter with a 16-6 lead. The Cowboys extended their lead during the second period and carried a 41-21 lead into halftime. The Tigers attempted to make a dent in the Cowboys' lead with strong perimeter shooting, but the Cowboys were able to keep the Tigers at bay and continued to hold a commanding, 56-33 lead at the end of three quarters. The game ended with the Cowboys holding a 66-42 advantage.
Zecharaih Jones led the Cowboys with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Demarvion Brown also had a double-double for the Cowboys with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Kelivon Oliver added 11 points to the Cowboys' total.
The Cowboys will now host the Tigers of Trenton High School in the Class 1A region semi-final game on Thursday, Feb. 20, in the MCHS gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Admission is $7 per person.
