The Jefferson County Varsity basketball team played against the Wakulla Christian Saints on Thursday, Dec. 9 and accomplished their first home game win of the season. Unfortunately, they lost the first three away games, so this week’s win caused an exciting stir among the fans when the buzzer sounded and the final score of 67-41 was displayed in favor of the Tigers.
Haven Francis (#0), Joshua Payne (#2), Markel James (#4), Delvin Chambers (#12), Travis Keaton (#10) and Monte Warren (#3) are some of the standout athletes on the team so far.
Friday night— Dec. 10, they faced off against Thomasville’s Brookwood Warriors, who took home the win, leaving the Tigers exhausted from a hard, but well-battled game.
Jefferson County’s Head Basketball Coach, Devan Roberts, shared his thoughts with precision and optimism, “I think what makes the team strong is our youth and room for improvement through practice. With proper execution, we can reach new heights. So far, this season has been a learning experience on both ends, with kids getting acquainted to the new style of play and with the coaches having to play with so much youth. On a good note, the team is optimistic on their season’s goals. The Jefferson County Basketball Program is thankful for the fan appreciation and support so far. Trust the process. Let’s Go Tigers!”
Jefferson County is scheduled to play a home game on Dec. 17 to face off with the Chiles Timberwolves. The Timberwolves have lost all five games played this season, presenting a strong possibly for the Tigers to garner another win.
