The Ruby-throated Hummingbird is likely one of the most recognizable species of hummingbird, thanks to their striking iridescent green bodies, framed by a white belly and beautiful red throat. When someone pictures a hummingbird, it is this one that likely comes to mind. Like most hummingbirds, the Ruby-throated are incredibly small, with a long, thin beak and short wings that can flap at more than 50 times per second. They are the most common hummingbird in the eastern part of North America, and are impressively widespread due to their migration habits.
