The Jefferson County Collection Facility needs to begin thinking outside of the box. Residents were requested to have stickers for their vehicles so the users could be monitored at the collection sites. But the sites are not monitored because nobody is there, or the attendant is not monitoring. It is time to improve the monitoring and keep the area cleaner. One way for this to happen is take the televisions out of the “houses” at the locations. What job provides a television and lounge chair for the employees?
Recently I read of the intent to double the Jefferson County refuse fee on our taxes and now there is an advertisement for a landscape contract for 11 collection sites. I would suggest other cost saving measures, such as reducing the number of collection sites and reducing the days and hours the remaining sites are open. There are collection sites within just a few miles of each other creating unnecessary duplication efforts/expenses. Instead of allowing tree trimmings/shrubbery at numerous collection sites designate only one location as other counties do. The number of days and hours could be reduced at all collection sites which would reduce Jefferson County expenses on refuse. Other counties are only open at remote locations only on Friday through Sunday.
It is time persons in charge start thinking cost saving measures instead of just increasing fees just so persons will not be inconvenienced by going to the collection sites on certain days or the employees won’t have the convenience of home instead of doing the job we as tax payers are paying them to do.
