Timothy Howard Peary, 78, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on Saturday, May 7. A devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife, Suzanne; his son, Chris; daughter-in-law, Carly; and grandchildren, Jake and Lily.
Tim was born in Boston, Mass., on June 15, 1943. He graduated high school from the prestigious Newark Academy and attended The Citadel, where he earned a BA in Political Science. He served his country in the U.S. Army as an airborne infantry intelligence officer in Korea and Vietnam, earning the Bronze Star, the National Defense Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, RVN Campaign Medal and two Overseas Service Bars. He was honorably discharged as a Captain and moved to Monticello with his wife, Suzanne, to start a real estate business and raise horses.
Tim enjoyed showing prospective buyers the beauty of Monticello in a horse-drawn carriage. A charter member of Monticello's Rotary club, Tim served as President and life-long member. He also served on a numerous local boards, such as the Apalachee Center, the Monticello Opera House and the Jefferson County Public Library. Tim enjoyed going to the Florida Legislature to fight for local funding, helping to secure ambulance services for Jefferson County and lobbying for the March of Dimes and the Florida Association of State Troopers.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church on June 17 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Ebenezer Baptist Church, P.O. Box 652, Monticello, Fla. 32345.
